Yangon (formerly Rangoon)
A city with a distinct colonial charm. Amongst the Victorian and Edwardian buildings, are golden pagodas with tapering spires, the most famous of these is the Shwedagon Paya, shimmering above the city of Yangon. All around the Shwedagon you will find the calm activity of a religious village, for a great pagoda is the focus of secular as well as religious life. The Shwedagon is the most sacred of all Buddhist sites and one that Myanmar Buddhists hope to visit at least once in their lifetime.
