Gangtey (or the Phobjikha Valley)
Gangtey, or the Phobjikha Valley as it is also known, is the winter habitat for the rare and endangered black-necked cranes that migrate from northern China, Mongolia and Siberia. The best months to spot cranes are between late October and March, with the best chance between November and January. There are also wild boars, sambars, Himalayan black bears and leopards in the surrounding hills.
A visit to the scenic glacial valley provides a chance to explore some of the ancient temples and villages on foot.
